Everyone was so excited when that trailer pulled up; you could hear them shouting before we actually pulled up to the site. It was Christmas for everyone, and most of all, uplifting and renewing to tired bodies and spirits, to know that people we do not even know, care enough to contribute to a worthwhile cause - to help lost, and abandoned animals.
The trailer will stand as a tribute to Acton for your very generous lease donation. We decided it would be best to get your permission, first, before we advertise that your company has helped the Katrina hurr
icane relief volunteers, Save-a-Pet, and Dothan Animal Shelter. We will honor and respect any reservations, guidelines, or preferences that Acton may have with a newspaper article thanking you, Greg, and Acton for your help.
The trailer will be utilized for Save-A-Pet office space to operate the current Katrina/Rita relief efforts, the daily operations, and the disasters and transfers for companions that are predicted to occur in the future.
Our primary focus right now is to get the remaining 150 companions out of the
small areas under the tent and to other shelters throughout the states, where
they will be placed in foster homes until they are re-homed or adopted.
Update. To date, we have air-lifted and ground-transported over 600 rescued
dogs, puppies, cats and kittens to rescues all over the United States since
the hurricanes began. I truly do believe that each one of the companions “knew” something good was happening, when they arrived at our shelter, and during their travel to foster homes, because they were so cooperative, and so good on these very long trips to eleven different shelter locations (as far away as New York, Wisconsin, some to North Dakota). I know they were smiling when they were taken off the trucks and planes —-
this was more than a Kodak moment, it is a life changing event for them, and
for us, one we are certainly in awe of everyday. We are better prepared now,
to serve again, and we will always be thankful to you, Greg, and Acton for our
office space.
The Save-A-Pet staff and myself sincerely thank everyone for caring about the companions and supporting our rescue mission.
